Puneeth Rajkumar donated his eyes after his death
Kannada Superstar Puneeth Rajkumar died on 29th October due to cardiac arrest. His eyes were donated after his death, in line with his father veteran actor Rajkumar’s pledge from 1994 where he said that his family member’s eyes will be donated after their death.
Usually, one eye is used for just one person but in this case, each eye has been used for two people and hence, his eyes gave light to a total of four people.
“All four patients are in between 20 and 30 years of age. They were on the waiting list for over 6 months now. Due to Covid-19, eye donations had stopped completely. Earlier, we used to do at least 200 transplant surgeries per month in our hospital. Things are getting better for the past 2-3 months. But the waiting list is long. So we made the best use of available eyes and instead of two, we were able to do the successful transplant in 4 patients,” said Dr Bhujang Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Nethralaya.
