Chun Doo-hwan, South Korea’s last military dictator, died this Tuesday at the age of 90 and with his death, a divisive era in the country’s modern history has come to an end.

However, the survivors of his regime are feeling difficult to come out of that phase and they are no close to reconciliation or resolution. When Chun was the de facto leader of the country after heading a military coup, it is believed that the then military government put down the Gwangju uprising and due to it, several hundreds of people went missing or were killed in the process.
