At the United Nations, Russia and Western countries are at odds over the migration problem in Belarus.
On Thursday, Russia and Western Security Council members exchanged barbs over a border dispute between Belarus and Poland, with Russia’s deputy United Nations envoy claiming his European counterparts have “masochist impulses.”
During a closed-door meeting of the 15-member group, Estonia, France, Ireland, Norway, the United States, and the United Kingdom highlighted the migrant problem.
Belarus has warned the crisis could escalate into a military confrontation, while Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia said Belarus posed a serious threat to European security.
