The Palestinian prime minister has called for a freeze on financial support for Israeli settlements.

Palestinian PM Mohammad Shtayyeh appealed on Saturday to cut off financial assistance for Israeli settlements. According to a release, Shtayyeh made the request while meeting with a visiting group in his office in Ramallah, West Bank.

“It has become evident that Israel intends to acquire Palestinian territories in order to expand settlements, control and steal the bulk of water resources, and limit free movement of people and commerce through military checkpoints,” he stated.

“How can we talk about a two-state solution when there are 720,000 settlers on Palestinian state territories and the settlement programme is still going on?” he wondered.
