The Wall Street Journal’s defence of Trump’s liar-infested letter backfires spectacularly.

The publication was chastised for allowing Trump to propagate incorrect material without conducting any type of fact check.

On Thursday, the paper’s editorial board defended the decision to print Trump’s letter without any kind of factual pushback by claiming that it trusts its readers “to make up their own minds about his statement.

“And we think it’s news when an ex-President who may run for President in 2024 writes what he did,” the editorial continued, “even if his assertions are completely false.”

The editors stated that the publication extends “the same courtesy to anyone we criticise, even when they make changes we believe are untrue,” and they criticised media attempts to ban the former president, adding journalists should “review their own standards after falling so readily for phoney Russian collusion claims.”
