Tigrayan forces fighting the Ethiopian government for the past year said they “will hunt down” foreign nationals whom they accuse of acting as mercenaries for the government on the battlefield.
Getachew Reda, a spokesman for the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), said the foreigners could come from Turkey, China, Israel or the United Arab Emirates. He told, “We don’t care (what their nationality is). We’ll hunt them down. They’ll be treated like the mercenaries they are.” The conflict escalated this month after rebel forces from the northern Tigray region and their allies made territorial gains and threatened to march on the capital.
