The government of Maharashtra is looking to increase the number of seats in the municipal corporations by 15%, with the census 2021 looking to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, accentuating an account by the Hindustan Times. They look to modify the respective Acts in symmetry to the estimated increase in population.

The state government’s urban development department reviews the number of seats in municipal corporations after the census in every 10 years. Based on this consensus, the delimitation of wards will be conducted by the municipal corporations.
