
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet gave approval for the extension of the terminal date for registration of beneficiaries in order to avail the benefits under the key employment generation scheme, the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana (ABRY). The date has been extended by nine months i.e. till March 31, 2022. The scheme aims to encourage formal job creation in the country and generate 71.8 lakh jobs in the formal sector as against the earlier projection of 58.5 lakh. Estimated expenditure of the scheme including the expenditure for the proposed extended period of registration will be ₹22,098 crore.
The government bears provident fund contribution for employer and employee for two years under the scheme. ABRY was launched in October, last year.
