Amidst the global pandemic , Tata Motors and Tata Power have successfully developed India’s largest grid-synchronized , behind-the-metre solar carport at the Tata Motors car plant as Chikhali in Pune , in a span of nine and a half months. The solar carport will generate over 86.4 lakh kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity per year. The provided area for the carport will not only generate green power but will also give space for covered parking for finished cars in the plant. The company states that they have always felt the need to conserve energy and strive to achieve 100 per cent renewable energy for all their operations. The plant was established to promote the use of clean energy in car manufacturing. The company plans to reach a net-zero goal till the year of 2039. The President of the Passenger Vehicle Business Unit of Tata Motors says that the company aims to find more meaningful ways to reduce our impact on the planet , as they continue to provide services and products to their customers whilst maintaining a sustainable environment.
