Maharaj’s hattrick helps South Africa to triumph over West Indies by 158 runs

Left arm spinner Keshav Maharaj became 2nd South African bowler who took a hattrick in test cricket which helped South Africa to defeat West Indies by 158 runs in 2nd test. South Africa white washed home team West Indies in the 2 match test series by winning the 2nd test match. Before Maharaj, Geoffrey Griffin had taken hattrick for the country in 1960 at Lord’s. Maharaj took five-for and sent back pavilion to Kieran Powell, Jason Holder and finally, De Silva and completed his first-ever hattrick.

After winning toss, West Indies invited South Africa to bat first. With the help of 96 runs from De Kock, they scored 298 runs in first innings. South Africa bowled out West Indies only on 149 runs. In 2nd innings, South Africa’s struggling inning ended on 174 runs and putted a target of 324 runs. In response, West Indies got all out on 165 runs. De Kock become player of the match award for his contribution of 96 runs in the match.
